For most, living on a boat is different experience. Some initially find it a little scary, some a little exciting. Most don't know what quite to expect. Depending on the boat that is in use, sleeping accommodations will vary from separate staterooms to a common bunking area. The galley and sitting quarters may be quite ample or fairly tight. There may be only one common head (bathroom) or two. However no matter what boat is used, the teamwork and camaraderie shared by working and living closely on a boat with a group of fellow Christians is a wonderful experience that further enriches a Crew Member's time on this mission event.
Crew members must be age 16 and up and feel comfortable living in tight quarters. There are no designated cooks, so each crew member is expected to cook, do dishes and keep the vessel clean. There will be a schedule made so each crew member knows what they are responsible for.
Each week there is a mission leader who will help orientate the group. Our misson leaders have all served on the boat in past years and are familiar with mission & boat life. People are needed in each crew who play guitar for our music outreach (we have our own songbook). The mission leader will encourage each crew member to use their gifts in service during the week, lead discussion and keep the crew on schedule during the day.
The days are busy and sometimes long. Please come expecting days that may start at 6 a.m. and finish at 11 p.m. This can be an intense week and we encourage you to be prepared and come well rested. The Holy Spirit gives us the energy we need!
Crewmembers are asked to make their own arrangements to Parksville on Vancouver Island, where you will meet your leader and fellow crew mates.
Flexibility is required by all. This will be a life changing experience as the Lord works amongst the crew too!
